Tunisian designer Azzedine Alaïa opened his first Parisian atelier in the 1970s, using the experience he had gained from working for fashion powerhouses Christian Dior, Guy Laroche and Thierry Mugler. He was an instant hit with socialites and Hollywood's elite, including Greta Garbo. Alaïa later launched his ready-to-wear collection in 1980 and was instantly crowned the 'King of Cling'- his signature second-skin dresses and fierce footwear helped define the era's style aesthetic. Fans like Naomi Campbell, Michelle Obama and Victoria Beckham can't get enough of his intricately-crafted footwear and luxurious leather bags.
